The SVSC Board has released the following Club Update

The SVSC Board has released a club statement / update.

Dear SVSC Family and Soccer Community,

We have been thrilled to see the number of players and families return to soccer in our community as we are coming out of this pandemic.  Over the last several months, House League, Coyotes and Blazers players have enjoyed weekly practices, games, tournaments/festivals, and continued development.

Our programs would not be possible without the commitment and hard work of our coaches, players, parents, volunteers, and the people behind the scenes of our Club, who have helped us through these past several years and bringing soccer back full time this season.

The Club operates as a non-profit, board run community program with over 40 years of experience bringing soccer programs to our community. It is made up of volunteer members who bring years of playing, coaching and other soccer related experience.

As the only Ontario Soccer and Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association (EODSA) sanctioned club in the area, we can offer our players the ability to participate in league play, tournaments/festivals, and other official soccer activities and events. It also allows us to offer certified and approved training sessions and opportunities.

As a member in good standing, we are required to adhere to competitive, developmental, and operational standards and practices. Our coaches and volunteers must be certified in various courses and levels, ensuring that we run a quality program that not only focuses on the growth of our players, but that of our coaches as well.

We have been fortunate to work with several other soccer organizations like Cornwall City Soccer (indoor league) and the Cornwall & District Soccer League (adult league) in the community who share the same goals of growth and development for our youth. We often times share the same group of volunteers and coaches.

Our recreational House League program has been running well all summer with over 600 athletes ranging from U5 to U15 at the SVSC Fields (formerly the Kinsmen Fields). House League players are provided with developmental training as part of their experience as well as inter-mural competition to assist in their development.

Our Coyotes, with 9 teams participating this season, is a development program that helps to support the needs of players who aspire to play competitive or cannot make the full commitment to a traveling team over the summer. Coyotes players tryout in January and begin training in March each year. Our Coyotes teams get a taste of competition attending three tournaments/festivals over the summer and have a weekly training session in addition to playing in House League.

Our 16 competitive Blazers teams compete in leagues run by the EODSA and East Region Soccer League (ERLS). We run both boys’ and girls’ teams from U9 to U18, with tryouts in the fall and training throughout the winter starting in November. In May, teams follow a twelve-week (home and away) schedule competing with teams from Ottawa, Kingston, and other communities from around the region.

Our Club continues to be strong, coming out of the pandemic healthier, growing and committed to offering more services and opportunities for our youth. Our future include:

  • Increase in programs and services offered to our players and continue to grow our player base. All players will have access to a clear pathway of long-term player development in keeping with Canada Soccer and Ontario Soccer’s framework.
  • Further investment in our coaches with training and certifications and continue to invest in our club coaching philosophy and coaching techniques.
  • Investing in our local referees and creating paths for our referees to develop and grow into the broader official network.
  • Improve our facilities to ensure they match the needs of the community, working in partnership with local partners such as the City of Cornwall and other sports organizations.
  • Evolve our strategic and operational capabilities to ensure we operate in a planned and sustainable manner and can execute our long-term vison and strategy.
  • Ensuring our soccer community are pleased, feel they are listened to and have a say in the goals of our club and the overall soccer community.

We are committed on what's important for our community by investing in all our players, coaches, programs, and infrastructure. SVSC prides itself on being a key part of our community by encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle, not only physically, but by connecting and making friends, achieving goals, and working towards something our kids become passionate about.

SVSC will continue to grow the game and programs for future generations to enjoy. Thank you and see out on the soccer pitch!
